That’s because an early rain delay followed by bad light saw many of the field unable to conclude their first round. But there were no shortage of stories with Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm battling rocky starts, while defending champion Tiger Woods produced an immaculate round of four-under, without a bogey in sight.
World No 1 Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas are primed to compete, while Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka are battling away still in their first rounds as the potential casualties from the favourites entering the week. There is still plenty of time for things to change, however, with weather likely to impact conditions once again and make one of the most challenging course in the world game even more difficult to tackle. We’ll have all the latest updates throughout the second round.
THE MASTERS 2020: HOPE FOR DECHAMBEAU
After that disastrous third hole, the US Open champion is in a battle just to make the cut. Still consumed by frustration, further bogeys on four and five followed, but at six he finally regathers his touch. A wonderful approach to the par-3 requires just a tap-in to move to +1. The cut is currently projected at E.

THE MASTERS 2020: ROSE IN AT -7
A lovely recovery from Rose, who seemed to be slipping away at one stage after such a promising first round. Birdies at 6, 8 and 9 hauled him back into contention now and a round of 70 is nothing to be sniffed at. He sits in a tie for sixth at -7, just two shots back of the leaders.

THE MASTERS 2020: TWO BIRDIES IN FOUR FOR RAHM
A misfiring start cost Rahm yesterday, but there’s no such mistakes now. A birdie at the par-3 fourth is his second of the day and that moves him to -5. Meanwhile, the overnight leader, Casey, who’s had a steady streak of pars to begin his round, gets one in relatively close at the fourth and will have a good chance to get off the mark.

THE MASTERS 2020: DECHAMBEAU IN ALL SORTS OF BOTHER
DeChambeau understandably frustrated after that lost drive and his second flies into a similar area of rough. This time, it’s sitting up reasonably well, but he catches it slightly thin and it runs over the back of the green. After another disappointing pitch, he eventually gets in for a triple bogey. A bitter and desperately unfair blow.

THE MASTERS 2020: KOEPKA CARDS 69 TO MOVE BACK INTO CONTENTION
A brilliant second round for Koepka, whose hopes looked all but extinguished when he sat at +2 earlier today. A fantastic end to his first round continued into his second and he birdies the last to finish on -5, just four back of the clubhouse leaders. Speaking of which, Thomas does tap in that birdie putt and a round of 69 sees him join the clubhouse leaders.

THE MASTERS 2020: DECHAMBEAU DESPERATELY UNLUCKY
A bitterly unlucky turn of events for DeChambeau at the third. His drive was pulled fractionally into the first cut down the left, but appears to have plugged and after an increasingly frustrated search, he’s left with no choice but to head back to the tee-box.
Meanwhile, Thomas has a brilliant chance to tie the clubhouse lead after a magnificent approach on his final hole.

THE MASTERS 2020: ANCER AND SMITH CLUBHOUSE LEADERS AT -9
Ancer in with a par at the last and that’s a brilliant round by the young Mexican, who takes the clubhouse lead. It may only be his first time competing in the Masters, but six birdies made for a majestic display. He only holds the lead outright for a few seconds, though, as another fine putt sees Smith finish with a birdie and a 68.

THE MASTERS 2020: WILLETT HOME IN 66
A fantastic round ends in 66 for Willett, the 2016 champion who is certainly in contention again heading into the weekend. Meanwhile, Im stumbles with a three-putt and the leader earlier today has dropped off the pace a little.
-8: Smith (17), D Johnson (15*)
-7: Willett (F), Fleetwood (F), Thomas (16*), Frittelli (15), Cantlay (15*), Casey

THE MASTERS 2020: WOODS TAKES TO THE COURSE
Woods, who produced such an effortless 68 yesterday, is on the tee. A nice easy swing with the driver and it flies straight down the middle. A sign of things to come?

THE MASTERS 2020: ANCER TAKES OUTRIGHT LEAD
We have a new leader at Augusta, Abraham Ancer, who is competing in his very first Masters, tapping in for birdie at eight and his stunning round continues. And while Johnson continues to stagnate at -8, Smith takes the opportunity to join him, with a birdie at 17. The Australian is four-under-par through his last three holes.
