Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested that Manchester United could bring in fresh faces this month – if one of their long-term targets become available.

United look to be in a strong position heading into the remainder of the season, with the boss having wrapped up a deal for Atalanta teenager Amad Diallo this month.

And while the boss is happy with the squad at his disposal, he remains in the hunt for superstars to help the club challenge for top honours.

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish is among the club’s No.1 targets, while Solskjaer has also been keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund pair Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho.

Solskjaer admits that January business is unlikely, but he holds hope that the club could agree a deal for one of their “long-term targets” this month.

“I think that the signings we made in the summer strengthened the squad really well,” the Norwegian said. “Good signings, good characters, good players.

“January’s always difficult but if something comes up that you think about in the long term, it’s a long-term target anyway, that’s another scenario.

“But not many teams would like to lose their players in January, so unlikely something will happen on the in side.

“There might be two or three going out because they deserve to play more football for their own good and their own career.”

Meanwhile Solskjaer has cleared Luke Shaw, and Victor Lindelof for Manchester United’s trip to Burnley, where Paul Pogba and Eric Bailly may also be involved.

The Red Devils are level on 33 points with Premier League leaders Liverpool and will usurp them with a positive result on Tuesday evening at Turf Moor.

There had been a number of injury doubts for the game but Solskjaer provided a positive update ahead of a fixture that sees Edinson Cavani return from a three-game ban.

“All of them trained today,” Solskjaer said of Pogba, Shaw, Lindelof and Bailly. Paul and Eric just didn’t do all of it, but Luke and Victor did all of it.”
