Manchester City are eyeing a swoop for Borussia Dortmund hotshot Erling Haaland before the Dortmund star’s release clause kicks in.

Haaland will be available for £68million in the summer of 2022 as per a clause in the contract he signed when he joined Bundesliga giants Dortmund in January last year.

Chelsea are one of the clubs who are keen on a move for the 20-year-old, but City are prepared to blow his suitors out of the water with a £100million bid this summer.

Pep Guardiola wants Haaland – whose father Alf Inge famously played for City – to be the forward to spearhead his attack once Sergio Aguero’s contract expires in the summer.

The club’s all-time record goalscorer, 32, is widely expected to return to his native Argentina at the end of this season, a campaign which has been wrecked by both illness and injury.

Guardiola is already planning for life after the club legend, and knows that he will need another star forward alongside Brazilian No.9 Gabriel Jesus.

Haaland has been nothing short of a revelation in top level European football ever since he left his native Norway just over two years ago.

He scored 29 goals in 27 games for Austrian Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg, and came to the world’s attention when he scored eight times in six Champions League group stage matches last season.

He has kept up that prolific form at Dortmund, scoring 38 goals in 39 appearances ever since he joined the Bundesliga giants last January.

A move to City would also see Haaland’s wages swell to around £400,000 a week as he looks to establish himself as the most fearsome No.9 in world football.
