Man City player ratings: Ilkay Gundogan runs the show vs Burnley – Manchester Evening News

Ederson: May not have had many shots to save but was an integral part of the build-up as Burnley pressed high and well only for him to slice through their lines. A mark off for the yellow. 7

Cancelo: Not for the first time, the opposition simply didn’t know how to go about stopping him. He didn’t contribute directly to a goal but his runs and deliveries made him a regular threat. 8

Stones: Had to sit and watch Laporte impress against Sheffield United but has surely earned a starting spot for Anfield with another confident and committed performance. 8

Dias: When did he last make a mistake or have an iffy game? October, arguably. Dias let nothing past him and led the team from the middle of the three centre-backs. 8

Laporte: He brings what no other defender can with his wonderful left-foot and that helped create the opening goal. A curious pre-match interview but utterly convincing from the first whistle. 8

Rodri: Another commanding performance in front of the backline, nipping in to break up any Burnley attacks and setting a brisk tempo with long diagonal balls to the channels. 8

Gundogan: Outstanding yet again. If this isn’t the form of his life then it is certainly the form of his City career. One excellent assist and close to having more goals and assists. 9

Bernardo: Bernardo does indeed look to be back. His scampering run and blistering left foot set up the first goal and his energy in midfield has helped to cover for De Bruyne’s absence. 9

Mahrez: Unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet but fully played his part in an excellent team performance and his vision for the second was key. 8

Sterling: One of his happier days at Turf Moor. Bright from the start, good for the opener, and he had Lowton’s number all night. Will feel he should have scored more but a very good showing. 8

Jesus: Two goals in two games and this was Jesus close to top form even if he still doesn’t quite have full confidence in front of goal. Has certainly put forward a decent case to start on Sunday. 8

Zinchenko (for Cancelo, 63): Looked comfortable spending the majority of his time next to Rodri in defensive midfield keeping the game ticking. 7

Not used: Steffen, Walker, Mendy, Garcia, Fernandinho, Gomes, Torres, Foden
