Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that left-footer Giovani Lo Celso will miss this weekend’s Premier League clash against West Ham, but added that he’s expected to return from injury in the near future.
Spurs host London rivals West Ham on Sunday in a league fixture and will be looking to build on their 6-1 demolition of Manchester United before the international break, which indicated they are a team moving in the right direction this season.
Mourinho has confirmed in his pre-match press conference (Football.London) that Argentine playmaker Lo Celso will not feature against the Hammers due to his hamstring problem.
On a positive note, the Portuguese boss added that the 24-year-old is likely to make his return next week and it’s not a long-term injury issue.
Lo Celso has had a stop-start season so far due to injury problems, but he’s scored two goals in five appearances so far and is clearly going to be an important individual moving forward this campaign.
The attacking midfielder is a left-footer that is extremely creative in the final third, something which is excellent news for a powerful strikeforce which could include the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Gareth Bale, Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela or Steven Bergwijn.
It will be interesting to see if Lo Celso can return next week for Thursday’s Europa League group stage tie at home to Austrian side LASK, but if not perhaps he may be in contention for the league clash away to Burnley on 26 October.
