Jordan Henderson suffers injury setback as Liverpool face anxious wait – Liverpool Echo

Liverpool have been handed yet another injury concern after skipper Jordan Henderson was forced out of England’s defeat in Belgium.

Henderson was substituted as a precaution after complaining of a problem during the half-time break in the 2-0 UEFA Nations League reverse in Leuven on Sunday evening.

He will undergo a further assessment on Monday morning when England return to St George’s Park to begin preparations for Wednesday’s Wembley clash with Iceland.

Henderson is almost certain to miss the match, with the Three Lions now unable to qualify for next year’s finals and not under threat of relegation from the top tier of the competition.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, though, will be keen to discover the extent of any possible damage to his captain as he grapples with an injury crisis for Sunday’s Premier League visit of leaders Leicester City.

“Jordan had a bit of tightness at half-time and felt he couldn’t carry on,” said England boss Gareth Southgate.

Asked if it was a hamstring problem, he replied: “Medically I would have to leave that for now.

“We will just have to assess him when we get back.”

Posting on Instagram after the match, Henderson did not mention any issues as he said: “Disappointing result tonight, but still some positives we can take from the performance.

“We learn and keep moving forward!”
