Gary Lineker says what the nation is thinking about Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish – Birmingham Live

Jack Grealish is finally beginning to get the nationwide acclaim that Aston Villa fans always thought possible.

The Villa captain was given his first competitive start for England in Sunday’s Nations League encounter against Belgium.

Gareth Southgate’s side slipped to a 2-0 defeat, failing to qualify for the Finals, but Grealish was showered with praise once again.

Jamie Carragher, on co-commentary duty for Sky Sports, raved about Grealish throughout the match while pundits Ashley Cole and Jamie Redknapp picked the playmaker out as England’s most dangerous player both at half-time and full-time.

Cole said: “When you talk about little magicians who can win you games, he’s one of them. Grealish should go to the Euros if he keeps producing the quality he’s currently producing.

“He’s got that (Eden) Hazard quality, he can beat players left and right, can get fouls for Mason (Mount) and Harry (Kane) to take free-kicks. He will win England points.”

There was also widespread praise on social media and legendary former Three Lions striker Gary Lineker was among those left impressed.

After Grealish showed off a particularly brilliant piece of skill in the second-half to flick the ball over his Belgium marker and escape forward, Lineker tweeted: “Love watching Jack Grealish, such a delightful footballer.”

The Match of the Day and BT Sport host was joined by former Villa forward Darren Bent in taking to Twitter to remark on Grealish’s performance.

Bent wrote: “What a performance from Jack Grealish, think you need to add his name along side Kane and Sterling as A must start going forward”.

Grealish’s brilliant form for Villa has seen him register more goal contributions in the Premier League than all English players bar Kane this term.

The 25-year-old has four goals and six assists to his name in his seven top-flight games, helping Villa enjoy an impressive start.
