Nottingham Forest picked up their first win of the season at Blackburn Rovers in Chris Hughton’s first game in charge.
Afterwards, the victorious manager spoke to the press about the 1-0 win. Here’s every word he said in his official media conference, as he addressed Forest’s bid to sign Kamil Grosicki on a season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion.
What do you hope that win does for the players?
“I hope that restores confidence to the players, particularly in the manner of the game when you score so late.
“It gives the team an incredible lift. In this division the games come around so quickly.
“There’s almost a feeling now of turning to Tuesday and Rotherham. I hope we can take this good feeling into that game.
“They worked very hard. As a manager if you lose because someone scores a worldie then you can put your hands up and say the team gave everything.
“That was the case today.
“We’ve all been through those difficult periods so sometimes when you a game in that manner it’s an even nicer feeling.
“We’ve come to a team that’s in really good form, at home, and in periods of the game they showed why they’re in form.
“The pleasing aspect is that we got stronger as the game went on.
“We wanted to be solid but have chances too.”
Did you see that goal coming?
“Did I see the goal coming? Probably not.
“The game was looking like it would be a 0-0 draw.
“We finished strong, which was good.
“You can either look at your team see one that wants to win this game and one doesn’t want to lose.
“Where we are, you probably want to be the team that doesn’t want to lose, so I’m very happy.”
You got lucky with the goal but Joe Lolley hit it with purpose
“He’s got that type of ability, particular when he comes inside and can get good power.
“Sammy Ameobi also had a real good effort. If you’re the type of player who takes those shots there’s always going to be a percentage where you get that bit of luck with a deflection or it hits someone for a tap in.”
Did you earn that luck?
“If Blackburn score early it’s a different game. The longer you stay in the game it’s about that bit of quality to get a goal.
“The feeling is always that if you score that deflected goal you’ve earned it. We came on stronger in the game.
“Blackburn have been in really good form. Tony has done a good job and it’s a good win for us.”
How did it feel to be back in the dugout after more than a year?
“The enjoyable bits are on the training pitch, seeing players develop and of course winning games.
“You’ll win a percentage of games, you just hope it’s higher rather than lower.
“These are pleasing moments. As a manager that’s been around for a while I’m really pleased for the players.
“They’ve not being winning so they’ll feel it. I hope as a team they can take it forwards.”
What is the latest with Kamil Grosicki?
“What I’ve been made aware of is that the paperwork has gone in. They are reviewing it at this moment.
“As a manager and a club we hope that is successful.”
