Andy Gray in Rangers battle cry as he sets Richard Keys straight over Celtic trouncing – Daily Record

Pundit Andy Gray admits he’s overjoyed with Rangers’ comprehensive 2-0 win over Celtic as he paid a poignant salute to Steven Gerrard.

The 64-year-old remains a fervent supporter of his former team and reckons the manner of the victory is as significant as the result itself.

Gray watched on with pride as Connor Goldson netted a deadly double to help Rangers open up a four-point lead at the top of the Premiership table

And he moved quickly to keep long-time colleague Richard Keys right when the broadcaster told beIN Sports viewers that the Ibrox side had “beat” Celtic in the lunchtime showdown.

Gray replied: “No, no, trounced, is the word you are looking for Richard.

“It was very emphatic. Honestly, obviously as a Rangers fan I’m absolutely delighted, but it was a big moment for Steven Gerrard, Gary McAllister and the staff.

“And the players, they’ve had such a good start to the season, this was Rangers first real test and, Celtic at Celtic Park, could they do it?

“They were absolutely emphatic, worthy, worthy winners.”

Meanwhile, goal hero Goldson admits he is delighted with his side’s brilliant start to the season but is refusing to get carried away after the signature win over their biggest rivals.

He said: “It is so early in the season, just 11 games played, and now it’s on to the European game on Thursday.

“We just need to get three points and keep progressing as much as
we can.”
